Betty Bowen (1918-1977) was a Washington native and an enthusiastic supporter of Northwest artists. Her friends established the annual Betty Bowen Award as a celebration of her life and to honor and continue her efforts to provide financial support to the artists of the region. Since 1977, the Seattle Art Museum has hosted the yearly grant application process by which the selection committee chooses one visual artist working in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho to receive an unrestricted cash award.Applications may now be submitted online at www.callforentry.org. The submission deadline is Saturday, August 1, 2009. All applications must be submitted to this website; applications sent by mail will not be processed. The exception to this rule is for video artists. All artists are required to submit six images of recent work, as well as a resume, artist’s statement, and information about the six works. Please visit www.callforentry.org for further application details.
The 2009 Award finalists will be contacted the week of August 31st, 2009. The finalists will be invited to present their work to the committee on Tuesday, September 15th. After this presentation, one winner will be selected and the Award ceremony will be held on Friday, October 23rd at the Seattle Art Museum.
